FAQs
GENERAL
Australian products have to work in the harshest conditions, we have a hole in our ozone layer and our products need to be made to withstand all the unforgiving elements.
We're also a TGA Certified product and Australia has the strictest testing facilities and toughest regulations in the world.
Our supply chain is also super important to us, knowing where our products are made, who by and having a hands on process ensures that we're super proud of the product we are offering.
All our Topical Sun & Skin care products are Made in Australia only a few minutes from the beach on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland.
They are produced
by Standard Procedure's co-founder, Zepha Jackson's parents business. They've been in the Sunscreen and Topical Skin Care manufacturing biz for over 30 years, manufacturing for the Australian Government and many other multinational brands.
It's 100% Jackson family owned and operated, with 3generations working in the biz.
All Standard Procedure Merch, is ethically made at Not A Stitch Up in Bali, Indonesia and Screen printed locally by us or our friends in Illuka, NSW.
RECYCLING/STOCKISTS
As a TGA Certified product, we are unfortunately required to use virgin plastic material due to contamination risks with post-consumer was bottles. Our bottles are produced using ♻ 2 HDPE Plastic. High-density polyethylene (HDPE) is, like BPA, a material derived from petroleum. The difference is that HDPE plastics are completely free from BPA and are therefore safe for applications that directly impact humans. HDPE 2 products are also easier to recycle and are able to be collected through your local recycling to be broken down and
made into new products.
Alternatively, please view our recycling page to find a Precious Plastic collection point to send your old bottles to these
independent recyclers to bring to life a new product.
Standard Procedure doesn't have the ability to check current stock levels in store.
Please check with the stockists directly prior to arriving to ensure they have the specific product/size you're after.

Absolutley not
Our products are said to expire 3 years from manufacture date. Each product is stamped with a batch code and expiry date so you can see the use by date.
Our formulation is SPF tested to meet both UVA & UVB requirements to be able to claim SPF50+ Broad Spectrum.
In Australia, the exact SPF rating is
not required to be disclosed as it needs to test over a specific rating to be able to claim 50+
SUNSCREEN
It is recommended that Sunscreen application should be used as part of your daily morning routine.
Always apply at least 20 minutes before exposure to the sun. Re-apply every 1 - 2 hours,
especially after swimming, exercising or excessive sweating.
Ultraviolet Radiation (UV Rays) can be really brutal for our skin. The sun emits three types of UV Rays; UVA, UVB and UVC. UVC Rays are able to be filtered by our ozone layer, but 10% of UVB and 95% of UVA rays make it down to us.
These UV rays are damaging to our skin cells, and with extreme UV exposure can cause cell death; with the cells failing to
repair themselves, it prompts the cells to mutate which leads to the development of skin cancers.
UV rays are also the biggest cause of premature ageing; wrinkles, loss of skin elasticity, pigmentation and pre cancerous
skin changes.
It takes only 15 minutes of exposure to the sun to burn your
skin and damage your skin cells; so it's really important we're applying Sunscreen daily.
SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor. It's the measure of the amount of UV that gets through the screen.
The higher the SPF number, the less UV passes through. With an SPF of 50, 98% is filtered and one-fiftieth or 2% gets through.
Broadspectrum in Sunscreen terms means it's effective in protecting skin from ultraviolet
radiation by absorbing or blocking both UVA and UVB rays.
To be classified as offering broad-spectrum protection, a product needs to absorb or reflect at least 90% of the UV rays.
All Standard Procedure Sunscreens have Broadspectrum coverage.

Yep! Our 50+ Sunscreen is 4 Hour Water Resistant
There is currently no governing certification body to be Certified Reef friendly. However, our products do NOT include any of the four ingredients that are
known to be harmful; Oxybenzone, 4-Methylbenzylidene Camphor (4MBC), Oxinate/Octyl Methoxycinnamate) (OMC), PABA and Butylparaben.
This is true! A healthy dose of Vitamin D is good for us and our bones, however this can be achieved with spending only a couple of minutes in the sun.
Ideally when it is at a low UV index, under three, which is early morning or late arvo. If you're in Australia, you can check your local UV index here: https://www.myuv.com.au/
The short answer, yes. The longer answer, also yes. Given the controversy around
chemical sunscreens, the FDA has invested resources into determining their safety.
The FDA has found Octocrylene to be safe in concentrations up to 10%. This is a much larger percentage than what is used in our formula. The potential issue with Octocrylene being absorbed into the bloodstream is that it may disrupt hormones in the body. While this may seem scary, it is extremely unlikely that the amount of sunscreen used over a lifetime would add up to a significant enough dose to disrupt hormones.
An article by Harvard Health estimates that it would take 277 years of sunscreen use to
create a substantial disruption.
All ingredients used in the products are tested and regulated by TGA in Australia and are approved for use in cosmetics in the EU. TGA (Therapeutic Goods Administration Australia) is among the strictest regulations globally.
If this ingredient wasn’t safe, we would not be able to use it in our products. If you are concerned about the potential effects of Octocrylene, speak with your dermatologist and your physician.
Our sunscreen is actually Fragrance Free - so while there’s no artificial fragrances added, we’ve been told by so many people that the classic subtle smell of sunscreen takes them back to spending there beach days in there childhood!
No, there isn’t any Zinc in this SPF 50+ Sunscreen formula. However, if you have allergies to different products you should always do a patch test before using a new skin care product.

HAND SANITISER
Bio-ethanol and synthetic ethanol are chemically indistinguishable—they are both the same compound, C2H5OH. The only difference between the two is that Synthetic ethanol comes from fossil raw materials, and bio-ethanol comes from renewable resources like corn, potatoes, wheat, sugar cane. Standard Procedure uses
Sustainably sourced Bio Ethanol in our Hand Sanitiser.
Alcohol/Ethanol is able to deactivate the proteins in bacteria and virus and effectively kills them and removes any danger, this process is called denaturation.
Nah, doesn't quite work like that. Vodka is typically 80 proof, which means it’s only 40% alcohol and not high enough to effectively kill microbes.
Ethanol is technically known as Ethyl Alcohol, so Ethanol is an Alcohol, however there are other types of alcohol for example methyl alcohol, rubbing alcohol and butanol, which are used for very different things than Ethanol.
100% ethanol would suprisinly not work as well. Protein denaturation works quicker and better mixed in with water and other ingredients. Pure Alcohol would evaporate too quickly to effectively kill bacteria or viruses on your skin.
Using a gelling agent means the sanitiser wont run straight off your hands, the gel makes it easier to spread evenly and be more effective.
SHIPPING/RETURNS
